Shrubs to 2m tall. Both male and female plants. Twigs reddish-grey, glabrous; newest growth yellowish and ~pubescent. Female catkins on new leafy shoots of year. Capsules glabrous. Floral bracts brown and long-hairy, lanceolate and ~3mm long. Leaves very sparsely pubescent, elliptic, acute, minutely denticulate with small, yellow-brown denticles (glands), 5-6cm x 1.5-2cm. Petioles 5-7mm, flattened, yellow.
