Low-lying moist area between roads; Other riparian species present, including cattails and willows. Large number of this species in the area; Soil moist and well developed.
Old flower stalks from previous growing seasons present; Biennial, most plants in area 5 feet tall, long taproot, purple flowers that start flowering in the middle of oblong head, and flower in two circles around head, moving to base of head and top of head; Plants and flower heads armored with spines and spiny bracts.
