Heads yellow, discoid; stems much branched, to 1.5 meters tall, erect; forming large, shrub-like clumps; locally common on rock faces and among broken rock. Photographed. Specimen GPS: 36.919937, -104.957695.
Small sandstone cliffs and outcrops along north side of canyon, in open forest of Pinus ponderosa and Pseudotsuga menziesii, with Ribes cereum, Quercus gambelii, and Jamesia americana.
