Joe Hines Road, parcel #202-89-004, from I-10 exit 340, 1 mile west of Fort Grant Road, 1 3/8 miles north along Joe Hines Road on the west side; Collector's notes: Habitat desert with mesquite, Lycium, grasses; population salvaged from a building site to be cleared on an ancient lake bed, loam, clay, loam; voucher specimen completed before planting in propagation.

Flower diameter 40-52 mm, length 50-80 mm, outer perianth yellow or gold with faint pink midstripe, inner perianth yellow or yellow-orange with reddish-orange midstripe and reddish-orange at base; stigma lobe number 7-9, cream or white; pads blue-green, broad to obovate with aereoles, length 5-9 cm, width 4-8 cm, branches erect; spines white aging to light brown, circular, base flat, some twisted, apex is amber, 0-4 spines per aereole; glochids light brown covering aereoles, length up to 7 mm; aereoles 1-1.5 cm apart; thigmotrophic positive.
