Off of Hwy. 25N at Polvadora, ca. 3 mi S of San Acacia, exit 163, silty rocky soils along small, mostly dry watercourse; assoc. w/ Grusonia pulchella, Opuntia tortispina, O. phaeacantha, O. macrocentra, Cylindropuntia imbricata, Larrea tridentata, Prosopis, Tribulus, plants forming large colony, growing with their pads perpendicular to the ground surface, sprawling over the surface of the soil forming chains; fruit spiny, dry at maturity. 34.20716°N 106.92318°W.
