Habitat: Shrub to 3 ft.; frequent in shallow gravelly soil on red igneous rock outcrop on hilltop. Woody associates include Aloysia wrightii, Baccharis pteronoides, Berberis trifoliolata, Bouvardia ternifolia, Brickellia laciniata, Dasylirion sp., Juniperus pinchotii, Leucaena retusa, Mimosa sp., Opuntia imbricata, Q. emoryi, Q. grisea, Rhus aromatica, R. microphylla, Tecoma stans, Ungnadia speciosa, Yucca spp.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
