Perennials from erect, scaly rhizomes; leaves often overwintering, neither aromatic nor glandular, to 75 cm tall; blades sparsely scaly along rachises & costae, the scales on the latter mostly hair-like; pinnules with incurved (not spinulose) teeth; sori medial; indusia reniform; spores brown, coarsely rugose, averaging ca. 48 microns long.
