Strongly rhizomatous, somewhat aphyllopodic. Head elongate of 6-10 ~sessile spikes. Lower spikes mostly male, terminal androgynous. Perigynia strongly striate-veined on both surfaces, plano-convex with serrulate/pubescent margins. Achene fills perigynium, stigma 2.
