Abandoned gravel pit in glacial drift, mostly open with much bare sand and gravel, but some invasion of young Ulmus pumila, Populus deltoides, Lonicera x bella, Morus alba, etc. Quite weedy, with Poa spp., Androsace occidentalis, Holosteum umbellatum (Collected here May 17, 1981), but at this time of years aspect dominated by Aster spp., Melilotus spp., Artemisia caudata, Verbena stricta, Asclepias verticillata, Sporobolus spp.
