On drainage banks and slopes; in Juniperus osteosperma / Fraxinus anomala / Coleogyne ramosissimum community with Astragalus lonchocarpa, A. nuttalianus var. micranthiformis, Lepidium montanum, Oreocarya flava, Packera multilobatus. Permian Cutler Form.
Plants with thick caudices forming small dense clumps of several stems; cauline leaves 0-3 on plants in area; abundant and widespread.
