First year cultivated plants (from seed). (Plants originally introduced with Buchloe seed purchased from western Kansas). Initially plants were low and hemispherical, and produced cleistogamous axilllary flower clusters with underdeveloped perianths. Later plants produced terminal inflorescences with chasmogamous onstrates stamens and styles in the shrivled cleistogamous perianths
