In openings bounded by sagebrush and shrubs, in light colored fine shaley soil; associates include Astragalus missouriensis var. amphibolus, Achnantherum hymendoides, Mahonia repens, Packera mancosana, Townsendia leptotes, Petradoria pumila, Hymenopappus filifolius, Antennaria dimorpha ; flowers white to pink; common and widespread.
